New Demographic Realities: The Northeast-Midwest Region

This report uses U.S. Census Bureau data to explore demographic trends in the Northeast-Midwest region as a whole. Specifically, the authors draw from a 2010 Brookings Institution report that identified five new national demographic realities: growth and outward expansion; population diversification; aging of the population; uneven higher educational attainment; and income polarization. The report addresses the question “how are these five new realities manifest in the Northeast-Midwest region and what are their policy implications?”
