Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition Co-Chairs

Congressman David Joyce (R-OH) is in his third term representing the 14th district in northern Ohio that borders his home city of Cleveland. Congressman Joyce has been particularly active in protecting the Great Lakes, most notably with the 2013 Great Lakes Ecological and Economic Protection Act. The bill, referred to as GLEEPA, will further restoration efforts, address the persistent invasive species problem, and bring together environmental organizations with businesses which share a common interest in the Great Lakes. Beyond his environmental efforts Congressman Joyce’s focus on industry and employment growth in the region is invaluable to the Northeast-Midwest Coalition’s goals in the region. Congressman Joyce serves on the Appropriations Committee and on the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Interior and the Environment, and Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Subcommittees.

Congressman Rick Nolan (D-MI) is in his fifth term representing Minnesota’s sprawling 8th District. An avid, lifelong outdoorsman, Congressman Nolan has worked to preserve the Great Lakes environment, from combating dangerous invasive species, to fighting for tax incentives for renewable energy producers. Recently, for instance, he offered amendments to the Water Resources Reform and Development bill (WRRDA), which expanded the definition of invasive species in an effort to more effectively address the problem. After returning to Congress in 2013 after serving previously, from 1975-1981, Congressman Nolan is a member of the House Agriculture Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, reflecting his commitment to the environment and Midwest industry.
