The Northeast-Midwest Institute has launched an Economic Recovery and Workforce Development Policy Initiative in response to the nation’s and region’s ongoing economic crisis and the prospect of an elongated economic recovery. The initiative is focused on developing and advancing a sound policy agenda that responds to the challenges of the moment as well as long-term economic and workforce priorities, and envisions engaging with federal, regional, and state policy-makers in forging consensus and a plan of action for the future. The new initiative will:
- Conduct and disseminate research on critical economic and fiscal policy areas at the core of economic recovery and workforce development policy, including criminal justice, energy, the environment, health care finance, public finance, and transportation.
- Present policy briefings and webinars on critical policy analysis and policy options to explore and advance sound economic recovery and workforce development policy.
- Engage with key Congressional offices, committees, and caucuses and coalitions positioned to advance sound policy-making for economic recovery and workforce development, including the Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition, the House Regional Economic Recovery Task Force, and the House Climate Solutions Caucus.
- Collaborate with the Northeast-Midwest Institute’s partners in economic development policy such as the American Manufacturing Communities Collaborative, the BlueGreen Alliance, the Coalition of Northeastern Governors, and other partner organizations.
- Develop an economic recovery policy agenda for the nation and the region that is essential in anticipation of the 117th Congress and a new presidential term starting in January 2021.
