Great Lakes Orientation and Primer Program – Session One – The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI)

Please join the Northeast-Midwest Institute (NEMWI) for the 2021 Great Lakes Primer and Orientation Program, a program aimed at providing policy education on critical issues that are most impactful to the health of the Great Lakes. This year, the Primer and Orientation Program will be broken out into four sessions, with the first session focusing on the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), and will take place on Friday, April 30th, at Noon EST.

The GLRI has been a critical federal program in advancing essential environmental and economic achievements through the cleanup of toxic areas of concern (AOC), increased habitat restoration, improved invasive species controls, nutrient reduction, and increased public education/engagement throughout Great Lakes communities. Most recently, Congress reauthorized the GLRI for an additional five years and increases its authorization level from $300 million to $475 million by fiscal year 2026. The webinar will include updates from a panel of experts from organizations that include:

  • U.S. Environment Protection Agency’s Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO)
  • The Healing Our Waters Great Lakes Coalition
  • The Great Lakes Commission
