NEMWI Hosts Four Congressional Briefings on Regional Issues

The Northeast-Midwest Institute has conducted four Congressional briefings on regional issues to date in 2018.  The first two briefings on January 31 were for an audience of Congressional staff and regional stakeholders. One briefing covered the Gulf Hypoxia Task Force’s 2017 Report to Congress, which gave an update on progress toward reducing nutrient pollution deposited in the Gulf of Mexico via the Mississippi River. The second briefing examined the importance of the Soo Locks to the American economy and the role they play in the supply chain of the American steel industry. A third briefing in February featured seven panelists representing four distinct groups of stakeholders discussing the status and impacts of Asian grass carp in the Great Lakes. Most recently, on March 6, NEMWI and the U.S. Water Alliance co-hosted a briefing on an Equitable Water Future. Summaries of and materials from the briefings can be found below.
