Growing Manufacturing & Workforce

Responding to the challenges facing the historic industrial and transportation centers of the region as they have suffered from population decline and lack of traditional employment opportunities, the Institute is exploring innovative policy directions that promise rejuvenation of the regional economy. These negative trends in manufacturing and workforce undermine economic vitality and strain the municipal resources of older communities. Federal policy can play a fundamental role in helping economically challenged communities capitalize on their existing assets, such as institutions of higher education, medicine, and arts and culture. The Institute works closely with its partners to disseminate information on innovative workforce and economic development strategies toward the rejuvenation of regional economies and the stabilization of employment.
