Upper
Mississippi River Program Overview
The
Northeast-Midwest Institute launched the Upper Mississippi
River Program in 1995 to advance basin-wide sustainable development
goals. Institute staff analyze and distribute information
on Upper Mississippi River management issues and track related
appropriations and legislation. Staff also organize periodic
briefings, meetings, and conferences on congressional and
administration initiatives that affect the Upper Mississippi
River.
Institute
staff work closely with the Upper
Mississippi River Task Force, which was formed in 1998
to disseminate information and coordinate legislative efforts
on areas of agreement for the benefit of the Upper Mississippi
River. The bipartisan task force is co-chaired by Ron
Kind (D-WI), and Tim Walz (D-MN), and is currently seeking new Republican
leadership.
