Briefings: Security and Trade Along the Northern Border
Northern
Great Plains Transportation & Trade Study
The Northeast-Midwest Institute and
the Northern Great Plains Initiative for Rural Development (NGPIRD)
completed a three-year project to analyze trade and transportation
trends in the Upper Midwest. The analyses forecasted regional, national,
and international trends in commodity agriculture, food production
and consumption, and manufacturing that may hinder or offer economic
opportunities for the region.
As part of the Transportation and Trade
project, the Northeast-Midwest Institute and NGPIRD developed a
corridor planning document for the participating states and Missouri,
which were interested in pursuing federal funding for improvements
along the Interstate 29 corridor. Under the TEA-21 National Corridor
Planning and Development Program and the Coordinated Border Infrastructure
Program (commonly known as the Corridors and Borders Program), "Congressionally
Designated High Priority Corridors" such as I-29 are eligible
for funding to conduct planning, design, and construction activities.
Applicants for this program, however, must include a corridor plan
with their submission.
