LJ Bowles

Staff Accountant


LJ Bowles joined the Institute as a staff accountant and office administrator in 2016. LJ is responsible for performing various duties, including: accounts payables, receivables, payroll administration, accounting reconciliations, and other duties as required for general office operations. LJ has led revenue recognition for grants and contracts with government, private sector, and non-profit entities such as the Maritime Administration, United States Geological Survey, NSF International, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and the Joyce Foundation.

LJ began her accounting career in 2014 as a finance intern with GE Energy Management in Salem, VA. There she led a $23M inventory Audit and implemented a new system for internal auditing with the use of iPads and scanners. In 2015, LJ was asked to return for a second rotation, as a financial planning and analysis intern with GE OIL & Gas in Jacksonville, FL. After two internships with GE, LJ switched gears and went to work for a government contractor as the human resource and accounting assistant before joining the Institute.

Raised in Michigan, LJ earned her Bachelors of Science in accounting from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. She is currently working towards a master’s degree in accounting and finance from Stratford University.
