NEMWI Nitrate Study Cited by Circle of Blue (July 20th, 2018)

Circle of Blue published a WaterNews article on July 20th, 2018, discussing the need for a standard that requires lower nitrate levels to ensure safe drinking water. The article cited the finding in the Northeast-Midwest Institute’s report, Source Water Quality and the Cost of Nitrate Treatment in the Mississippi River Basin, that high levels of nitrates are financially burdensome on communities. Specifically, the nonprofit organization wrote that the Institute’s study “found that removing nitrate has raised the cost of water treatment in the last decade.”
