Federal Policy and National Brownfields Coalition

The Institute provides information to Congress, particularly the Northeast-Midwest Congressional and Senate Coalitions, on federal policy issues that relate to brownfields redevelopment. The Institute also provides policy analysis services to the National Brownfields Coalition and coordinates the activities of the Coalition.

Members of the Northeast-Midwest Congressional and Senate Coalitions have been active in supporting brownfields-related legislation (for example, the 2002 Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act) and appropriations.

A particular area of emphasis is to link brownfields and related urban redevelopment programs to climate change strategies.

Brownfields Inner Circle

The Northeast Midwest Institute has formed the “Brownfields Inner Circle” as a means for corporations, local government, and non-profits to support the Institute’s work in advancing federal policies that promote brownfields redevelopment as a central strategy for revitalizing communities in an environmentally sustainable fashion.  Membership in the Inner Circle provides valuable visibility and exposure within the brownfields industry – an opportunity to be recognized as a national leader on brownfields issues.  The complete description of the Brownfields Inner Circle is posted here.
