How do electricity markets in Northeast-Midwest region states compare to those in other states, and why? The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) routinely collects, analyzes, and disseminates a wide range of energy-related information for the nation. This abundant state-by-state information is vital for industry decision makers, policymakers, analysts, and the general public to understand, predict, and plan for changing U.S. electricity markets. However, further analysis and explanation is required to provide a regional view, which is so critical to energy policy and planning. Using recently released Energy Information Administration data (2009 State Electricity Profiles), this Note to the Coalitions identifies and explains trends in electricity generation, price, and emissions in the Northeast and Midwest.
