Nicole Mays is a Senior Policy Analyst with the Northeast-Midwest Institute's ecosystem team focusing on a wide range of ecosystem protection and restoration issues, including trade, transportation and the environment, specifically the Great Ships Initiative; economic valuation of contaminated sediment remediation in the Great Lakes; and ecosystem management issues generally.

Ms. Mays' specific area of expertise is the transport of aquatic invasive species via ballast water. She has more than ten years experience working on this issue, and together with Ms. Cangelosi has authored several technical publications related to ballast water treatment including on methods for measuring performance of ballast treatment systems. She also spent several years working as a Research Assistant with the Centre for Research on Introduced Marine Pests (CRIMP) at the CSIRO in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

Ms. Mays received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tasmania, Australia, and a Graduate Certificate of Natural Resources Management from Deakin University in Victoria, Australia.
