Recycled Energy Development
A Capitol Hill briefing on March 27, 2007, featured a presentatation by Richard Munson of Recycled-Energy Development on the benefits of recycled-energy technologies.
The
Perfect Power System
A Capitol Hill briefing on April 26, 2006, explored the perfect
power system. Reliable and affordable electricity continues to be
a key factor that will determine the future of the U.S. economy.
Unfortunately, today's electricity grid and generators are antiquated,
vulnerable to disruption, and inadequate to power future needs reliably.
The briefing provided an overview of how we got to where we are,
the options we face, and the consequences of the choices we make.
- Richard Munson,
executive director of the Northeast-Midwest Institute and author
of From Edison to Enron: The Business of Power and What It
Means for the Future of Electricity.
- Kurt
Yeager, director of the Galvin Electricity Initiative.
Energy Emergencies,
Higher Prices: What Needs to be Done
A Capitol Hill
briefing on October 12, 2005, examined the nation's dependence on
affordable and reliable energy and the vulnerability of that energy
infrastructure. Hurricane Katrina, for instance, took down off-shore
rigs and refineries, as gasoline and other fuel prices spiked to
new levels. The briefing focused on the near-term and the essentials
- information, planning, and programs. What are energy prices likely
to be over the winter? Can states plan for energy emergencies? How
can that help? What needs to be done? What programs and resources
are available? What can Congress do. An agenda
is attached. Click below on a speaker's name to read that presentation.
- Guy
Caruso, Administrator, Energy Information Administration --
"The Winter Outlook"
- Jeffrey Pillon,
Chair, Energy Data and Security Committee, National Association
of State Energy Officials -- "How Can You Plan and What Difference
Does It Make?"
- Allan
Bedwell, Deputy Secretary, Florida Department of Environmental
Protection -- "Insights from the Front Lines."
- Peter
Smith, President, New York State Energy Research and Development
Authority -- What Can States Do Now to Get Ready?"
- Mark Wolfe,
Executive Director, National Energy Assistance Director's Association
-- "What Programs and Resources Can Help?"
Participants also discussed the need for timely and accurate energy
information. Click
